OBSESSIVE-COMPUSILVE DISORDER

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is characterized by a recurring pattern of unwanted thoughts and fears known as obsessions. These obsessions can compel individuals to engage in repetitive behaviors, referred to as compulsions, disrupting daily activities and causing considerable distress. The symptoms of OCD can encompass both obsessions and compulsions, though it's possible to manifest one set of symptoms without the other. Whether or not individuals are aware of the irrational nature of their obsessions and compulsions, these symptoms can consume a significant amount of time, diminish the quality of life, and interfere with daily routines. Individuals suffering from OCD can also feel shame and embarrassment; however, it is important to recognize that these symptoms are not a reflection of who you are but rather, symptoms of a treatable condition. At Life InSight, we understand the challenges of living with OCD, and we’re here to help you regain control over your life.

Obsessions: Persistent, unwanted thoughts, images, or urges that cause anxiety or distress

  • Fear of contamination or germs
  • Unwanted aggressive or harmful thoughts
  • Intrusive thoughts about symmetry or order
  • Excessive concern with morality or religious beliefs

Compulsions: Repetitive behaviors or mental acts performed in response to obsessions

  • Excessive cleaning or handwashing
  • Repeated checking (e.g., locks, appliances)
  • Arranging items in a specific order or symmetry
  • Counting, tapping, or repeating certain words.

At Life InSight, we specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). We understand how

isolating and challenging this condition can be, but we want you to know that effective treatment is available. Our approach centers on Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) therapy, a highly effective, evidence-based treatment specifically designed to address the unique challenges of OCD.

In ERP therapy, we guide you through a gradual process of facing your obsessions in a safe and supportive environment. By

intentionally exposing you to the thoughts or situations that trigger your obsessions without allowing you to perform your usual compulsions, ERP helps you learn to tolerate the anxiety and distress these thoughts cause. Over time, this process reduces the power that obsessions and compulsions hold over your life, helping you regain control and improve your overall quality of life.
