Janelle Amato, Ph.D.

Background: Dr. Janelle Amato is a licensed clinical psychologist and certified school psychologist in New Jersey. Dr. Amato is skilled in providing therapeutic interventions for individuals with anxiety, depression, ADHD, and emotional dysregulation, as well as those experiencing life stressors such as painful loss, family conflict, stress, or parental challenges. Dr. Amato tailors her therapeutic approach to fit the needs of each individual’s unique set of strengths (and challenges) to help individuals and families better understand how a clear diagnosis can impact thinking, learning, and behavior. She also provides comprehensive neuropsychological and psycho-educational evaluations which provide insight into known or suspected developmental, learning, psychological, and neurological disorders in children, teens, young adults, and adults.


Education & Training: Dr. Amato earned her doctorate in Psychology from Pennsylvania State University in 2008. She began her career in school psychology in 2004 as a member of the Child Study Team for the Sayreville Public Schools, in Sayreville, New Jersey. In 2006, Dr. Amato accepted a position with the Cresskill Public School District, Cresskill, New Jersey, where she has served as the Director of Student Services since 2011. Additionally, Dr. Amato has held a position as an Adjunct Professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey, and at Fitchburg State University in Fitchburg, MA where she taught graduate-level courses in Psychopathology, Developmental Psychology, Child Psychopathology, Research, and Special Education. 


About Me: Dr. Amato is happiest when she is with her two children and takes pleasure in being a spectator at their many sporting events. In her spare time, she looks forward to a good beach read with all ten toes in the sand. As a member of a large extended family, Dr. Amato loves spending time, enjoying food, and sharing in the many events that bring her together with those closest to her.
