Janelle Amato, Ph.D.

Dr. Janelle Amato is a licensed psychologist, who earned her doctorate in Psychology from Pennsylvania State University in 2008. She began her career in school psychology in 2004 as a member of the Child Study Team for the Sayreville Public Schools, in Sayreville, New Jersey. In 2006 Dr. Amato accepted a position with the Cresskill Public School District, Cresskill, New Jersey, where she has served as the Director of Special Services since 2011. Dr. Amato also holds a position as an Adjunct Professor at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, New Jersey, where she has taught graduate level courses in Psychopathology, Developmental Psychology, Child Psychopathology, and Special Education. Her clinical experience includes treating anxiety, mood disorders, family conflict, inattention/impulsivity, and life transitions.


Using evidence-based techniques, Dr. Amato tailors her therapeutic approach to fit the needs of each individual’s unique set of challenges and strengths with the goal of  helping individuals and families better understand how a clear diagnosis can impact thinking, learning, and behavior. She provides a wide range of services primarily focused on the following:


  • Identification of the cause(s) of distress, as well as exploration of accompanying maladaptive thoughts and behaviors 
  • Analysis of the impact of mood or attentional disorders on functioning over time
  • Diagnostic assessment of known or suspected developmental, learning, psychological, and neurological disorders in children, teens, young adults, and adults
  • Targeted recommendations for treatment and/or school-based interventions directed toward maximizing academic success and social well being
  • Determination of needs for accommodations for standardized testing (SAT, ACT, etc.)
